The INAPRO urban demonstration system

Over the past few months, INAPRO partners have finalised the INAPRO urban demonstration system. The demonstration object has been developed in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. The design, conceived by Wenke Förster, was developed over several steps and was inspired by the inner structure of a tomato fruit.

This smaller version of the INAPRO system has been developed to better reach the general public and raise awareness about aquaponics as an innovative and sustainable solution for food production. The idea is to maintain the overall structure of the system –the aquaculture and horticulture part and the water recirculation system- in a smaller and transportable version to be showcased during different events and fairs.

An initial lighter version of the system, was showcased in the State Museum for Art and Design in Nuremberg under the framework of the "WEtransFORM" festival.

The final version of the system, which is more complex and complete, is an integrated solution which is composed of an aquarium for fish that is situated in the middle of the system surrounded by plants. The urban demonstration object includes a system that allows the recycling of the condensed water as well as some screens that display a video which explains how the system works.

The urban demonstration system was already showcased during the Hortivation fair which took place in Germany in June 2016, and it is now exposed at the "Human Factor – Endless Prototyping" exhibition at the Drive Volkswagen Group Forum in Berlin. It can be visited until the end of August.
