INAPRO-partners achieve German Sustainability Award 2014

Friday December 12, 2014

Great news for visionary and sustainable farming approaches: “ZINEG- The Low Energy Greenhouse Project” received the German Sustainability Award 2014 in the category “research”. Prof. Uwe Schmidt, member of INAPRO’s advisory committee and cooperation partner of the INAPRO project, is leading the ZINEG working group at the Humboldt University (HU) in Berlin. The team works on a new and closed greenhouse technology with single glazing and multi-layer thermal screens, optimizing the utilization of renewable energy, and a more efficient CO2 usage. External emissions ar reduced to nearly zero, while increasing the crop production by 20% at the same time.

In 2012, the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), project coordinator of INAPRO, had already received this award for their aquaponics technology “ASTAF-PRO”. This technical setup is the basis for the INAPRO project.

By combining the core approaches of these two sustainable technologies, INAPRO can now strongly profit from these two award-winning projects.
